Key West!!!

Our plans are to stay in Key West until February 14,  2019.  Our youngest son attends Massachusetts Maritime Academy and he is on their training ship cruising the Caribbean and learning on a semester at sea.  His ship, the TS Kennedy will be docking in Miami for the weeekend of Feb15-17 and we plan on meeting him for the Miami Boat Show.   We were lucky enough to find a slip for the weekend so he can have a home cooked meal and a little down time.  Have to thank Dave Balfour for giving me the name of the marina that made room for us(Miami Beach Marina).  As you can imagine almost every available slip in Miami has been reserved. With our son’a School we didn’t have the dates of his Liberty until early January.

We have met new friends here in Key West.  It’s really amazing what a tight knit community Nordhvn Owner’s are.  While lounging on the couch one of the first days at the dock I heard a knock on the side of the boat.  It was Don and Deb McCarty of Mondai Nai, a beautiful N55.  They invited us to Happy Hour and we have had dinner over their boat and I am expecting them for dinner on ours.     There was another Nordhvn at the Galleon but we never were able to find them aboard. It was the former Chopin now known as One Life.

If you haven’t visited Key West it is a beautiful place to just lay low and relax. Almost everything is in walking distance and there is something for everyone. We have been enjoying the laid back life of Key West.  Watching the sunset  and exploring daily.  We had spent our honeymoon here 32 years ago on the family’s 53 foot Hatteras Motor Yacht.  Not half the boat of a Nordhvn.  The Hatteras only had 3 foot draft. Now when you compare that to a 6-7 foot draft of a Nordhvn there is just no comparison of seaworthiness.

I’ve made the trip to see the sunset ceremony at Mallory Square more than once or twice. If you haven’t  Experienced it I strongly recommend it at least once.  Mallory Square is where you can find the real “Wild Life” on Key West!!!
